FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The end of Habitat for Humanity's Builder's Blitz is drawing near. On day four of the five day project, construction crews were busy installing cabinets and flooring.
Teams from Lancia Homes, Byall Homes, and Bremer Homes are all donating their time and resources to the project. Officials with the three companies say even though it has been a very busy week, it will all pay off on Friday when the homes are finished.
"I think the most rewarding part, every day we build homes, is turning those keys over at the very, very end and seeing the smiles on their faces and realizing that we did a good job," says Jamie Lancia of Lancia Homes.
"This has been a great opportunity for us to contribute back to the community," adds Josh Bremer of Bremer Homes.
Maurie Byall of Byall Homes says, "It's nice to help people that you know are very deserving of what they are going to get."
The project is expected to wrap up before the end of the day Friday.
Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - In as little as nine hours all three homes were framed up, complete with a roof, all on day one.
All three builders plan to finish the homes by Friday, the fifth day of the building blitz.
Two of the homeowners we met with Tuesday morning couldn't believe the progress made in just one day.
The homeowners are working alongside the builders to help with the construction of their homes.
It's an ambitious goal, even for Habitat for Humanity. Three lots in Fort Wayne recently broke ground with the intent to be fully built homes in five days.
The three homes are all located on Congress Avenue, and mark the first-ever "Builders Blitz" in Fort Wayne.
Three area families will move into the homes when they're complete.
The total cost for the three homes is completely covered by sponsors.
Now Habitat leaders are just hoping for great weather.
Three local builders, Lancia, Byall, and Bremer homes will construct the homes at the same time.
They're calling it a friendly competition.
Frontier Communications is streaming video of the build at www.frontiercares.org.
