FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Focusing on a bright future, despite a painful decision in their recent past.
Indiana’s NewsCenter spoke with some Harding High School students, who were blindsided by word their school would be shut down for good at the end of this school year.
Jeff Neumeyer: " It's all about to come to an end for Harding High School and its students.
The decision was made last fall to close the building and disperse the students to New Haven and the district's other three high schools.
East Allen Superintendent Dr. Karyle Green rejected our request to get inside Harding to document the end of an era.
We, however, rounded up a handful of Harding students, who reflected on the big changes."
Victoria Pollard, who will be a sophomore next year, plans to transfer to Fort Wayne Community Schools.
The Harding closing left a bad taste in the mouth for the whole family.
Victoria Pollard/Harding Freshman: " My mom doesn't really want me to go to an East Allen County school, because she thinks another one is going to close, and she didn't want to do all that sending me to another school again. Plus, it's like a new thing for me. I want to do a new thing."
Erica Cammack will be part of the final Harding graduating class. But she didn't feel much love when the closing decision came down.
Erica Cammack/Graduating Senior: " It was tense and frustrating sometimes, because we felt like they didn't really care about how we felt about the whole situation. But for the most part we dealt with it."
Fellow graduate Rassan Ridley won't let what happened ruin her senior year or her impression of Harding.
Rassan Ridley/Graduating Senior: " I am proud to say that I graduated from Paul Harding High School. I did everything that I needed to do to get something out of my education. I still believe that the place could be all that people want it to be. I just think more could have been put into it."
Jeff Neumeyer: " Graduation is set for June 10th, time running out on a school with a long tradition.
