WASHINGTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches national security officials have issued an alert about possible al-Qaeda attacks using small airplanes.
The FBI and Homeland Security warn that terrorists are considering renting private planes and loading them with explosives.
Sources say that U.S. intelligence has received information that al-Qaeda has been discussing targeting aviation and that the terrorist group have a continued "interest in obtaining aviation training particularly on small aircraft" and recruiting Europeans and Americans. Authorities say they have stepped up security nationwide as a precaution.
Bob Wood of Diamond Aviation says, “Two FBI agents actually came in and introduced themselves and told me about the possibility of, not a specific threat, but that al Qaeda was planning to use general aviation to harm us here in America.
Authorities say there is no specific threat, but security is being beefed up at the airports, aboard trains and buses.
