HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- The only African American player on the Huntington North football team defends his school against allegations of racism.

Joshua Boykin spoke about the fall-out from last Friday night's North Side-Huntington North contest.

The senior who plays running back and linebacker said he wanted to set people straight, that his school is not made up of a bunch of hicks, red necks, and racists.

North Side's visit to Huntington North marked the first regular season game between the schools.

There were unsportsmanlike conduct calls and trash talking exchanges, nothing real unusual.

But after the game, North Side assistant coach Derrick Moore posted a message on the Gridiron Digest web site, claiming his players were called racist names, and that Huntington fans spewed racial taunts as well.

We asked Joshua Boykin pointblank if racial remarks were flying around the field.

He said he’s sure he heard nothing coming from his team.

Joshua Boykin/Huntington North Football Player: " And they probably like misheard somebody say something from their side, and they looked and reacted at one of our players, but I know none of my coaches...Coach Gilg never raised us to be like that. Ever since that game and the accusations against us, we don't hit as hard, we don't run as hard, we're a little confused, we're hurt."

When we asked Boykin if racism is a problem at his school, he said he’d never been subjected to it.

He wishes the North Side coach at the center of this storm had not chosen to post his feelings on a statewide blog.

We requested an interview with Derrick Moore, but he never responded to our messages.
