Hunter Killed by Son in Apparent Accident

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Indiana conservation officers believe a Fort Wayne man's death during a hunting trip was accidental.

42-year-old Eric Menefee Sr. was hunting rabbits and squirrels with his son, Eric Menefee Jr. and another man, 25-year-old Justin Platt at Roush Lake in Huntington yesterday morning.

During the trip, officials say the three were walking single-file when the younger Menefee's shotgun got tangled in some brush. But when he freed the gun, it went off and his father was shot in the back, killing him.

Conservation officers are still investigating the incident.

They believe this is the first hunting fatality at Roush Lake since it opened in 1970.
