FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - An open box of rat poison, an empty gun case and a hot iron are left within reach of five unsupervised young children.

Fort Wayne Police arrested 28-year-old Amber Tinsley early Sunday after getting a report about a burglary alarm. Police responded to the call around 3:20 a.m.

A nine-year-old in the Hamilton Avenue home told officers his mother had been gone for about two hours and that he didn't know where she was.

Four other children were also in the home that police described as "filthy." Their ages were nine, seven, five, and three.

Tinsley called the home about 45-minutes after police got there and said she was having a cigarette behind the home. A short time later she arrived back at the residence.

Court documents say that when Tinsley arrived home, she smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking and leaving alcohol in the refrigerator where the children were.

Officers arrested her on one count of public intoxication and five felony counts of neglect of a dependent.

She was released on $12,500 bail.

On Tuesday neighbors said that she was a young mother who had not been in the neighborhood very long.
