Indiana (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to fill Indiana's roadways this holiday weekend.
Thursday night some people are already hitting the road, but throughout the weekend the amount of people on the road is only going to increase.
AAA expects 700,000 people to be traveling by car in Indiana throughout the holiday weekend. That's a slight increase over last year, which means more state troopers will be on patrol.
Last year 10,000 drunk drivers were pulled over in the state.
Sgt. Ron Galaviz with the Indiana State Police says while drunk driving is a problem there are other distractions such as cell phones that also lead to crashes. He says people should limit their distractions in the car.
Galaviz also says planning your trip well is important. “Get online, find out where the construction zones are, where the delays are going to be and plan accordingly,” Galaviz said. “It's supposed to be in the 90’s. It's going to be a nice weekend so expect to run into delays.”

The roads will not only be busy in Indiana, but across the nation. According to AAA, 35 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home. This is a small increase from last year.
Although gas prices are high in the Indiana area, they are not as high in other states. This will add to the number of drivers traveling this weekend.
