Fort Wayne, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Indiana State Senator David Long is being honored with the Legislative Conservationist of the Year award.
Senator Long is receiving the award after stopping a bill that would allow canned hunting, where hunters would be able to kill animals that are fenced in and raised to be killed.
"It's the right thing to do. It's a barbaric practice. So many hunters that I know, and sportsmen feel the same way."
The person honored with the award can be a state or federal legislator or private citizen involved in sponsoring natural resource related legislation, protecting or enhancing wildlife.
