INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - It's being called the most expansive voucher program in the country, and this week, Indiana educators will to learn more about it.
The program will take effect this fall, allowing families to use public money for private school education.
It's limited to just $7,500 vouchers the first year.
State Senator Dennis Kruse says that's less than 1-percent of public school students and will limit the impact on schools.
Kruse says, “It's probably the most comprehensive of any of the 50 states, many states are working on this and I think others are going to follow along. Right now ours is pretty significant and this is designed to help parents with choices about how they have their kids educated.”
State legislators put a cap on family income of $60,000 for a family of four, meaning nearly 60-percent of families are expected to qualify for the program.
