Indy Mom Accused Of Using Two Toddlers To Shoplift

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (RTV6) -- An Indianapolis woman has been arrested on charges of tucking stolen loot in the safety seats of her two toddlers during a shopping trip.

Beech Grove police confiscated 42 pieces of stolen merchandise, adding up to $371, at the Wal-Mart in the 4600 block of South Emerson Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Kyla Price, 20, of Indianapolis, was jailed on a felony theft charge.

Police said Wal-Mart security spotted Price on surveillance cameras hiding some of the stolen clothing and household items in a plastic container in the lower portion of her shopping cart.

With some of the items, police said she could be seen hiding them behind her 3-year-old daughter in a safety seat on that shopping cart.

Security workers told police they found a zebra print shower curtain stuffed in the child seat, concealed by the toddler, as they exited the store.

Price stopped to pay for some of the items in her cart, according to the police report filed with her arrest. However, police said she did not pay for diapers and fake fingernails that she was seen placing into the plastic bin beneath her shopping cart.

"She did not pay for any of the items on the lower rack or the items concealed behind her child," officers wrote in their report.

Police said she started yelling and interrupting officers as they tried to read her rights to her and question her.

Officers noted she would not answer when asked her name or address, and when she was asked where she was born, she answered, "a hospital."

Officers called a relative to take custody of her girls, ages one and three, as she was being arrested.
