WASHINGTON, DC (U.S. Department of Labor) -- Job recovery continues to crawl forward in January, as employers added 157,000 jobs. The unemployment rate was recorded at 7.9%.
While that level of job growth is weaker than in December of 2012 when employers hired 196,000 workers, it is in line with last year's patterns.
This report comes amid conflicting signs about the overall recovery. There has been some strength, most notably in housing, but the economy contracted recently for the first time in more than three years and the debate over government spending continues.
