Koran Burning Back On In Gainsville, Florida?

GAINSVILLE, Florida (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The pastor at a Florida church who said he was planning to burn the Koran Saturday, on the anniversary of 9/11, gave mixed messages on Friday over whether he intends to carry out those plans.

On Thursday, Reverend Terry Jones pledged to end plans of a bonfire if the Imam behind the proposed Islamic Center near Ground Zero agreed to meet with him this weekend.

But the deadline for the Imam's answer passed without a response.

A Texas evangelist working with Jones said on Friday no Korans would be burned Saturday, but he could not speak for the day after that.

The President reiterated his stance against the burning for fear of Islamic radicals' response.

“This is a way of endangering our troops, our sons and daughters. You don't play games with that,” says President Obama.

A handful of churches across the nation are now saying they will burn the Koran Saturday if Reverend Jones doesn't.

Christian Evangelist Dr. K.A. Paul says, “Is it the right thing to burn the Koran? Legally? Can a Pastor burn the Koran tomorrow with his people as he said? Legally, it is right. But is it the right thing to do? No”

Paul went on to say it is legal for the center to be built, but like burning the Koran, he agrees that it is not the right thing to do.
