NEW HAVEN, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- For years it was one of the most popular reality shows on cable tv…Orange County Choppers…one part custom motorcycle building…nine parts family dysfunction. Needless to say the real reality of motorcycle maintenance is a lot less dramatic.
Welcome to the new digs of longtime 21Country motorcycle builder Bad Dad Motorcycles, catering to Harley Davidson owners who want their hogs to stand out in a crowd.
“We’ve been in exactly the right place at the right time,” says Bad Dad owner Derk Hinsey, “with the insurgence of motorcycle enthusiasts spending money and time trying to personalize their bikes.”
Derk Hinsey built Bad Dad..started out as a body shop and now designs and builds custom tanks, farings, fenders and saddle bags for motorcycles. Everything on this bike that’s white is a custom Bad Dad part that, once bolted on, radically changes a motorcycles look and stance. But there’s more…Bad Dad developed invisible light lenses that are actually part of the fender. The company can replicate just about any logo or design a customer wants. And there is this little device……tucks the license plate under the fender and whips it out when needed. The result of all this creativity are low, sleek, flowing bikes that look like they’re doing 70 standing still. Bad Dad’s earned a reputation in the business as a creative 21st century company that delivers what’s promised. Business has grown five hundred percent in the last six years and Bad Dad now ships all over the world.
“Moscow has been someplace we’ve been recently,” Hinsey says. “We sent some stuff to South Korea week before last. Japan has been emerging customers for us.”
Hinsey says it’s been a great ride so far…lots of plans for new products and new projects in the future. But he says he has no plans for anything but slow, steady and stable growth for his company.
“Just be viable in the marketplace,” he says. “Just be a good place for people to work and a challenging environment for everybody.”
Eric Olson reporting, out in 21Country.
