London (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The 2012 Olympics kick off in London July 27.
While sports fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the games, the city of London is anticipating the massive influx of cash it will receive from the games.
British Prime Minister David Cameron promised the Olympics and Paralympics would bring more than $20 billion of economic benefit to the United Kingdom economy over the next four years.
The Olympics are being held at a time of deep spending cuts by Britain’s conservative-led government.
Public funding for the games is more than double the amount anticipated when London was awarded them in 2005
Cameron made his comments at the headquarters for Britain’s Olympic team.
"The Olympic Park is ready, and it looks absolutely stunning, the teams are arriving, our games are on time and under budget. “ Cameron said. “You've got to keep it that way, and they are reaching all parts of our country."
The Olympics begin on Friday, July 27 with the opening ceremonies.
All of the action will be on NBC 33.
We will also have a half hour special every night beginning that Saturday at 7:30 called the Olympic Zone on NBC 33. The show hosted by our sports guys will get the public caught up and ready for that night's action.
