FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Police responded to a report of a man down in a parking lot Monday night and found an adult male who is believed to have been struck and killed by a vehicle in the parking lot that then left the scene.

Police responded to the parking lot of Ray's Truck Wash in the 3400 block of W. Coliseum Blvd. just before midnight and found 57-year-old Richard Hamilton who was unconscious and unresponsive. Three Rivers Ambulance Authority medics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

At this time, it is believed that the unidentified male was walking westbound through the parking lot, when he was struck by a large vehicle that was pulling into the parking lot. The vehicle then left the scene.

It is currently unknown what type of vehicle was involved, nor if the driver of the vehicle was aware of the accident. It is also unknown if the accident was intentional, if the pedestrian made any attempts to avoid being struck, or if any alcohol played a role. It is also currently undetermined how long the deceased had been lying there before being discovered.

The Allen County Coroner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma. This is the 13th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.

Investigators are currently searching the scene for any evidence, possible witnesses, or any video surveillance from any of the nearby businesses. Anyone who was in the area and may have seen something is encouraged to contact police.
