Maryland Signs Same Sex Marriage Bill

MARYLAND (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Maryland has become the 8th state in the U.S. to allow same-sex marriages.

The state's governor signed a bill to legalize the marriages Thursday, saying it secures "human dignity" for all residents.

The law takes effect in 2013, and opponents plan to seek to overturn it through a referendum in November.

Maryland follows Washington, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont to make gay marriage legal.
