FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A man killed in a fiery crash between his motorcycle and a box truck Tuesday died of blunt force trauma, the Allen County Coroner's Office ruled Wednesday.

Christopher Burcham, 21, of Fort Wayne, died after slamming his motorcycle into the truck in the 3300 block of E. State Blvd. just after 12:45 p.m.

The coroner's office ruled his death an accident.

Witnesses and the Fort Wayne Police Department say Burcham was riding eastbound on East State Boulevard, lost his hat and turned around to retrieve it.

Upon resuming his eastbound ride, Burcham accelerated, popped a wheelie and collided with the gas tank of the turning truck, police say.

Burcham died at the scene.

The box truck burst into flames in the parking lot of Kentucky Fried Chicken. The driver and a passenger escaped the burning truck unharmed, Fort Wayne police say.

Burcham is the 12th traffic death in Fort Wayne in Allen County this year.
