FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Fort Wayne drivers could be some of the first in Indiana to drive along a new traffic pattern proposed by some state lawmakers.
It would have drivers navigating something called a diverging diamond which has vehicles on the wrong side of the road for a short time near interstate onramps.
The design actually crisscrosses opposing lanes which allows cars to to enter the highway without turning left in front of oncoming traffic.
The design is reportedly already approved in Fort Wayne and is under consideration in Greenwood.
The Indianapolis Star says lawmakers who support the idea like it because it could cut down on congestion, cost less to build than a cloverleaf design and be safer.
New York, Tennessee, Utah, Maryland, Georgia and Missouri already use the traffic pattern.
