ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - People in Allen County will not be able to vote early at satellite locations in the May primary for this year's municipal elections.
The idea was kicked around, but on Monday the Allen County Election Board opted to wait until November to open a handful of satellite locations for early voting in the city general elections.
Stats show a total of 578 people voted early in the 2007 May primary.
Allen Co. Election Board Zach Klutz says, “If we were to implement early satellite voting now, with 578 voters, you're looking at 30 dollars per voter in cost, and it just doesn't seem to me that there's demand to spend that right now."
Allen County leaders eventually hope to have authority to open large "vote centers" to conduct elections, which would replace traditional voting precincts.
That could happen as early as next year's presidential election.
