FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Former 3rd District Congressman Mark Souder who was a ranking member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee says it was a victory for America but also a missed opportunity that they could not take him alive.
Souder says, “It would have been good in one sense if we could have taken him alive because we could of potentially got more information. The tips clearly came from Guantanamo. I'm very glad we didn't close down Guantanamo. It appears it came from enhanced integration techniques, and I’m glad we didn't totally stop that.”
And Indiana's Senior Senator Richard Lugar says he was encouraged by the news of bin Laden's death and believes this is a real blow to al Qaeda
Lugar says, “I believe the intelligence community had a monumental victory there is bound to be that perceptions, that this is a huge break after many years of drought, of not having any idea of where bin Laden was located or even a clue of his daily life or circumstances, so it's encouraging.”
