FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Parkview Health is investing millions of dollars into renovating their Randallia Hospital. Construction crews are already clearing the way for a new main entrance.
Officials with Parkview Health announced a $3.2 million project Monday morning. The plans are to create a new main entrance and a courtyard area for guests.
"This is really our efforts to make good on a promise that we're here to stay and show an external investment in this campus," said Ben Miles, VP of Operations, Parkview Hospital Randallia.
Miles says, already this year, around $3 million has been invested into the interior of the Randallia Hospital. He says over the next several years to expect up to $10 million more to be invested into the Randallia facility.
"It is part of a purposeful plan, for Randallia knowing that this community needs us and wants us to be here," said Miles.
Despite Parkview Health building a brand new medical complex, Parkview Regional Medical Center, that opened last year, Randallia's ER remains the busiest in Allen County.
"There's about 100,000 people within three miles of this facility and they've told us in the past, and they're showing us today that they want this hospital here," said Mike Packnett, President/CEO, Parkview Health.
“Our commitment to the hospital, the neighborhood and the community is a top priority. This investment is needed and will help to improve the patient and visitor experience for all who step foot on the Randallia campus," said Sue Ehinger, president of Parkview Hospital and affiliates.
Along with a busy ER Packnett says the space for inpatient care at Randallia is still needed.
"Parkview Regional has been so successful over the last 15 months that we have some capacity issues there," said Packnett.
During the construction, all services including the 24/7 Emergency Department will remain open. Signage will be placed throughout the campus to help redirect patients and visitors to minimize the impact the construction will have on their access to the facility.
