Parts Shortage to Idle Louisiana GM Plant

DETROIT, Mich. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- The earthquake in Japan is impacting one of GM's truck assembly plants.

A shortage of parts produced in Japan caused by the disruption of manufacturing and shipping is forcing the idling of GM's light duty truck assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana. It's the only U.S. assembly plant that's been hit by the parts shortage.

Fort Wayne's truck assembly plant, where the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado trucks are made, are unaffected by the parts shortage.

Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickups are made at the Shreveport plant, which is expected to be down one week.

As for the Fort Wayne GM plant, at this point GM doesn't anticipant the shortage effecting the plant. They are watching the situaion closely but at this time everything is running fine.
