FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A person was hit on I-69 around 7:30 p.m. after stopping to help another person.
Fort Wayne police responded to the scene near the Aboite Center Road overpass.
Police say, due to the icy weather conditions, an SUV spun out and ran into a median. Another car stopped to help, but when the person got out of the car they were hit by a mini van.
Police say that person was intending to direct traffic, and the driver of the mini van claims he did not see them.
The person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Traffic is backed up for at least a mile. The northbound exit at Illinois Road is closed to traffic. As of 10:30 Sunday night, northbound I-69 was down to one lane.
