FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Drivers passing through the intersection at Hanna Street and Buchanan Street are dealing with major potholes, with the potential to damage their vehicles.

"I'm smiling but it ain't funny. (laughs) I about broke my front axle off on Hanna, I think past Buchanan where they built the new Urban League. It's like you dropped off the face of the earth," recalled Fort Wayne Resident Ray Murray.

Recent freezing weather has cracked the blacktop on Hanna Street in Southeast Fort Wayne.

Meanwhile, this weekend's warm weather has thawed that blacktop, causing potholes and leaving bare concrete.

In this stretch of roadway, drivers crawled through the intersection at less than 10 miles per hour Sunday afternoon, in hopes of keeping wheel axles in one piece.

"I literally have to play dodge between that middle lane, and the ends because the potholes are so bad," said Fort Wayne Resident Tiffani Naylor, referring to East Jefferson Blvd near Francis Street.

"Especially the main roads like this one is, you get farther down, there's so many pot holes, I've gotten flat tires," said Fort Wayne Resident Nicholas Bolen, referring to Southeast Fort Wayne in general.

The city of Fort Wayne has about 1,300 miles of roads to maintain.

Therefore, repair crews need community members to report potholes that need to be repaired.

Neighbors can contact city hall by dialing 3-1-1 Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If reported during the week, most potholes should be patched within four hours.

Residents can also report potholes online, 24/7.
