FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Sycamore Hills Golf Club is hosting its first PGA Tour event this week, the Web.com Hotel Fitness Championship. But before that kicks off the course is welcoming pros and amateurs to play together for a good cause.
Monday The Mad Anthonys Pro-Am was held at Sycamore Hills. The event benefits the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House. Each year the event raises around $100,000.
The Mad Anthonys Pro-Am is a tradition that means so much to the people that keep The Children's Hope House running, because it's a main revenue source for them.
The Children's Hope House is a place that welcomes families who have children in the hospital in Fort Wayne, but have nowhere to stay. Not only is a parent and their child welcome to stay at the facility, but entire families can stay. Their rooms accommodate up to four people.
Right now the Children's Hope House is preparing to open its recent expansion. The addition will give them more rooms for families. After they are done there will be 10 rooms. Since each room can accommodate four people they could have up to 40 people staying with them at one time.
For the executive director, who meets these families regularly, she says it's always an emotional experience.
"Every time these moms come in, mom and dads come in with a 1.7 ounce baby, and to know that they're going to be with us until at least their due date. So we really get to know these families, sometimes they're with us for 3 or 4 months," said Cindy Atkinson, Executive Director, Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.
All the money raised from Monday's event will go toward operating costs for Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.
