FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Your blood is needed. The Red Cross of Northeast Indiana says they've seen blood donations drop by ten percent the past two months.
Officials with the Red Cross say it's probably because it's summertime and people are busy with sports or vacations.
The Journal Gazette reports that the Red Cross saw a similar drop in donations this time last year.
Platelet donors are especially encouraged to give because the platelets can be used to help cancer patients going through chemo or radiation.
In the 52 counties that the Red Cross serves, there are 68 hospitals that need at least 500 donors a day to keep the blood supply up.
