Fort Wayne, Ind (www.incnow.tv) -- Governor Mike Pence visited Fort Wayne Wednesday and while he was here walked with residents of the city and Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 13-County service area.
The mile-long walk is part of a campaign Governor Pence and First Lady Karen Pence have unveiled to walk with Hoosiers throughout the state and promote a healthier lifestyle.
Habitual walkers of two miles per day, Governor Pence and Karen have traveled all over the state to spread the message of what a healthier lifestyle can do for Indiana residents, while talking a little politics as well.
The walk started at the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ headquarters, located at 1005 West Rudisill Boulevard. It continued through Foster Park before reconvening back at the local agency. In addition to Big Brothers Big Sisters, this opportunity is open to the public but registration is required.
“We are excited that Governor Pence chose to start his walk at our headquarters, allowing us to share the importance of an active lifestyle with the ‘Bigs’ and Littles in our programs,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO Josette Rider. “Governor Pence has a heart for children and understands that they are the key to driving the positive efforts of society. Our agency supports a very diverse community of Bigs and Littles covering a variety of ethnicities, cultures and demographics. In addition to reaching out to them, it will also give Governor Pence the opportunity to interact with a waiting list of children in need of mentors that consists of about 70% boys. Exposure to a male of his career status is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our kids.”
