2010 Census Shows U.S. Population As 308.7 Million

WASHINGTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - American grew in population by 10 percent in the last decade, but that's the slowest growth rate since the “Great Depression” in the 1930’s.

The U.S. Census says there are almost 309-million people living here now.

In those 10-years, Michigan lost the most people, followed by Rhode Island, Ohio and Louisiana also lagged.

Where people live has a significant impact in Washington as the survey determines how many Congressional seats and Electoral votes each state will have for the next ten years.

According to estimates Texas will see the biggest gain of four seats. Ohio and New York the losers, losing two seats each.

Indiana remains the same with nine Congressional seats and 11 Electoral votes.
