FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – Metro Youth Sports will now be required to have security present at all games after gunfire erupted near a football game last weekend.

According to our partner in news, The Journal Gazette, because Metro Youth Sports uses Fort Wayne Community Schools’ facilities, the two organizations met Friday to discuss safety procedures for future games.

“We did meet with them, and we will require that there is security present at all games,” school district spokeswoman Krista Stockman said.

No injuries were reported when shots were fired Sunday near a game at Memorial Park Middle School. Police arrested one man on preliminary charges of marijuana possession and resisting law enforcement.

The man is believed to have been involved in the gunfire, although police said no weapon was found on or near him. He does not face charges related to the gunfire.

Metro Youth Sports will be responsible for paying for security at all games, Stockman said.

“We would expect them to follow the same standards that we set for all of our athletic events,” she said.

Jim Winters, president of Metro Youth Sports, said the league will maintain its schedule for the season, with games to be played this upcoming week.
