An official told NBC'S Andrea Mitchell that he's almost "certain" to get the job. The person said, "there were two people on the list. Two minus one is one." Kerry has been serving in the senate since 1985. He ran for president in 2004.
His credentials as an ambassador include being a veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned the bronze star with Combat V as well as three Purple Hearts.
