Auburn, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - It was an emotional homecoming Saturday for a local family. Their loved one came home from Afghanistan but kept the news a secret and surprised them in her hometown of Auburn.

After 7 months Army Spc. Ashley Dubois is reunited with her 9-year-old son Gage, her mother and her aunt.

"My prayers were answered,” said Nancy Lamb, Ashley’s aunt.

Lamb took care of Gage while Ashley was serving overseas.

"Every day he would say, you know, I miss my mommy, I love my mommy, when is she coming home? And I would say mommy has a job to do and when they say it's ok for her to come home, she'll be here,” said Lamb.

Her family is overjoyed but also shocked that they can hug, hold and talk to the person they all missed so badly.

"We walked in and she was standing there and I guess I was kinda like Gage, I thought she wasn't moving, I thought maybe it was a statue,” said Roberta Montel, Ashley’s mother.

"I too thought it was a statue or a picture and then she moved and it was like a dream come true,” said Lamb.

Ashley is excited to spend the last few weeks of summer with her son and she's even more excited for Gage to start the 4th grade.

"You don't realize how much you miss until you're gone, and being home and being able to take him school shopping and clothes shopping and spend that time and take him to his first day of school, it's amazing. It's amazing just to be there. The things that you shouldn't take for granted, you don't want to miss them because they only happen once."

Ashley’s unit, the 381st MP, is based in Plymouth. This was her first deployment to Afghanistan.
