WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- Turning Southern Wells County into a wind farming community was the basis for Thursday night's public hearing at Southern Wells High School.

Around 100 county residents showed up to voice their concerns and praise for a major wind farm project.

APEX Wind Energy hopes to build 118 wind turbines in the two phase project.

Residents were concerned about the amount of construction, the low-frequency sound from the turbines and decreasing property values.

Each turbine would be 490 feet tall, one summit square is 420, one resident said it'd be like having over 100 sky-scrapers dotting Southern Wells making it the tallest county in Indiana.

The vote won't be until Thursday December 8th they hope to break ground in the spring of next year.

The county's director of plan commission says it's a good move for Chester and Liberty Township residents.
