Police Have Leads, No Description into Shooting of Local Attorney
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Some new developments in Tuesday morning's shooting.
Fort Wayne Police continue their investigation today into why David Kuker was found shot on his front lawn yesterday.
Police tell Indiana's NewsCenter that yesterday's shooting, which took place at a home on White Shell Drive, did appear to be an isolated act but that it was not random.
Kuker was shot just after eight in the morning. He got into some kind of fight with the suspect in which he was sprayed in the face with a chemical and eventually shot.
A neighbor called 911 when she heard Kuker yelling for help.
An off-duty officer with the sheriff's department was in the area and was the first on the scene.
Police were able to use a K-9 unit to track the suspect, but the trail went cold.
Police say that despite not having a description of the suspect, they do have leads. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Police are still on the hunt for a gunman that left one homeowner lying in his front yard with a gunshot wound.
UPDATE 3/28 at 12:30 p.m.: Police say they continue to investigate the shooting of local attorney, David Kuker, at his home in the 9400 Block of White Shell Drive.
Kuker was shot just after 8 a.m. Tuesday and his shooter remains unidentified. Raquel Foster, public information officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department, says investigators are exploring all possible motives for the crime that include Kuker’s occupation, any possible domestic disputes and if the shooter was in fact looking for something inside Kuker’s garage.
Foster says that they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence and instead have termed it an isolated incident.
“It doesn't make much sense that that home would randomly become the site of an act of violence. Like I said, when you have a squad car sitting across the way—as a matter of fact it was that off-duty officer who was first on the scene.”
Foster says police have spoken with Kuker to garner some information about the suspect, but Kuker was unable to provide a description of the suspect. Police say Kuker was sprayed in the face with an unidentified substance before being shot.
Police continue their investigation.
Indiana’s NewsCenter will update this story as it develops.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The victim has been identified as corporate attorney David Kuker with Faegre Baker Daniels LLP.
Just after 8 a.m. Tuesday Fort Wayne Police were dispatched to Kuker's home in the 9400 block of White Shell Drive after reports of a possible shooting.
A woman called the police saying that she found her neighbor (Kuker) calling for help from his front yard.
An off-duty officer with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department was first on the scene and reported that Kuker was suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Police did use a K-9 unit to track the gunman but that trail ended and they didn't find the person. Police say they have no leads on who the suspect is or why the person went to Kuker's home.
At this time police believe Kuker walked into his garage and was shot by an intruder who then fled the scene. Kuker was then taken to a local hospital in serious condition but is expected to recover.
Family members tell Indiana's NewsCenter Kuker is doing better and say it was a very scary day for them.
The incident remains under investigation.
