INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Two new lawsuits in the Indiana State Fair stage collapse will be the first of their kind in the state to recover damages in the alleged wrongful deaths of a same-sex partner.

The lawsuits were filed on behalf of two Chicago women who entered into a civil union there last summer.

One of the women died in the collapse, the other was severely injured.

The wrongful death and injury lawsuits were filed on behalf of the surviving spouse.

The attorney in the case has also filed a similar suit for an Indiana lesbian couple who were married in Hawaii.

One of those women died in the stage collapse, as well.
