Suicidal Person Barricaded For 3 Hours

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- A person called 911 and made suicidal threats, then barricaded himself inside his home Wednesday around 1 a.m.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a mobile home located in the 3100 block of Wells Street in reference to a 911 hang up call.

While officers were responding to the scene, 911 dispatch spoke with an individual that was inside the home making suicide threats. As officers arrived on the scene, they made several attempts to make contact with the individual which was unsuccessful.

Members with the Fort Wayne Police Departments Emergancy Services Team and the Crisis Response Team were dispatched to the scene. Negotiators on the scene spoke several times with the individual who continued to refuse to come outside.

After approximately three hours, officers deployed tear gas into the mobile home at which time the individual exited and surrendered to police. The individual was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
