When someone in Fort Wayne does something to make our corner of the world a better place, especially for the next generation, we want to know about it and pay special attention to it.

Too often, the extraordinary contributions made by ordinary citizens are overshadowed by the breaking news of the day.

"The Extra Mile" is a joint project supported by Mayor Tom Henry and the City of Fort Wayne. The program sponsor is HearCare, and media sponsors are 21Alive and Star 88.3 Radio.

A small panel of community leaders will select one recipient of "The Extra Mile" award each month from the nominations you submit.

On the second Wednesday of the month, beginning January 11th, our partner, Star 88.3 will interview the monthly winner and then 21Alive's Linda Jackson will profile the award recipient in a story that will air at 5 A.M. and Noon on WPTA 21Alive.

A commemorative plaque honoring the recipient's contributions will be then be placed by the City of Fort Wayne at an appropriate location.
