FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) Saying thank you to our veterans today could be seen all over the Summit City.
From the Shepard’s House to Memorial Park to Ascension Lutheran Church, flags were raised, prayers were said, songs were sung and the honoring of veterans who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our right as Americans was performed patriotically.
Veterans like Ted Wright spoke of their struggle in times of war and after making it home safely.
Current servicemen like Captain Charles Goad of the 122nd Fighting Wing spoke of Fort Wayne’s rich history as a base in times of war. He also spoke with great excitement of the 122nd’s return to battle with the new A-10 fighters.
In a gym packed with parents and students, Captain Daniel Gard, part of the Navy Chaplain Corps., described what it means for children to understand why we have our freedoms.
Each celebration reminded us why we have the freedom of choice. Each of these celebrations told stories of loss and hardship, but ultimately reminded us what it takes to be Americans and to defend the United States of America.
To our veterans, we thank you.
