COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (21Alive) -- In Whitley County, it's time to select someone to fill the remainder of the auditor's term.

Last month, Auditor Jenny McGuire resigned while the state police and state board of accounts launched investigations.

The Republican party in Whitley County will hold a caucus Wednesday night to select one of three candidates to take over the rest of McGuire's term.

Jana Schinbeckler, Steve Hively and Geraldine Johnson are running to replace McGuire, whose term expires at the first of the year.

Schinbeckler says she's filled-in for all of the positions within the auditor's office before being hired full-time as that office's finance deputy.

She says she'd do things a bit differently than her predecessor if she's chosen for the job.
“I want to make sure that I give monthly reports to all the departments. I want to make sure they know what it is in their budget and what they have and what they can expense and what is left of the appropriation. I want to make sure they are aware of all their funds. That hadn't been done before? On certain funds, no, it has not,” she says.

Steve Hively is a retired accounting manager, who worked for the former Whitley County Hospital and Essex Corporation.

Gerri Johnson is the former Churubusco town clerk-treasurer.

The Whitley County caucus of 29 precinct committee chairs will be held Wednesday night at seven at the county government center.

It is open to the public.
