SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - OSHA is investigating the death of a Notre Dame student who died when the tower he was on while videotaping football practice toppled in strong winds.
Winds in the area were gusting to 51 mph at the time of the accident Wednesday.
20-year-old Declan Sullivan, a Junior at Notre Dame, was standing on top of the hydraulic scissors lift when it fell. He was rushed to the Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he later died.
Notre Dame officials will have grief counselors available to students.
Statement from University of Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Declan’s family and friends. Declan was a diligent student worker in our video department and had a tremendous personality and great sense of humor. He brightened the days for all that had the privilege to work with him, and the Notre Dame football family will dearly miss him.”
