FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Antonio Rico Morales, the man accused of neglecting Chico the Chihuahua, was in court this morning for his initial hearing. Morales had failed to appear for his original initial hearing on April 20th.
Morales was arrested in February and has been charged for neglect of a dependent, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and cruelty to an animal.
The story caught the attention of Fort Wayne citizens because when the police entered the home on a warrant, they discovered Chico covered in a blanket in the garage near death. Chico has recovered and was adopted by one of the officers that discovered him.
A two year old child was also found in the home and was placed with other family members.
Morales' jury trial is set for August 23rd.
