FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- A man made his step-son hold a sign explaining why he was in trouble at the corner of Wells St. and Irene Ave. last week.

Jimmy Gifford, a fourth grader at Franke Park Elementary, was holding a sign that said "Honk 4 Like. I have to stand here because I cussed out a teacher."

Jimmy and his step-father, Bob Higgins, stood at the corner of Wells St. and Irene Ave. while cars passed by honking and people approached Jimmy teasing him a little bit. According to Higgins, Jimmy was suspended from school for two days for cussing out his teachers.

Higgins says he's had a lot of trouble with Jimmy lately and when he saw this idea on TV a few weeks ago, he thought public humiliation might do Jimmy some good.

"It seemed that grounding and different punishments around the house wasn't doing it," Higgins said. "So I figured I'd get him out here on the street corner and advertise to all his friends and neighbors."

Since Jimmy couldn't attend school, Higgins had him stand out on the corner for the span of the school day. When 21Alive spoke with him Tuesday morning, Higgins said he didn't think it had sunk in yet, but that if it didn't sink end by the end of the day, it definitely would by the end of the second day.

Jimmy wasn't that willing to talk but he did say he would rather be in school than out holding that sign.
