FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The Fort Wayne Police Department tells Indiana’s NewsCenter that numerous cars were broken into over night at a hotel on the city's southwest side.

At least five cars were broken into at Comfort Suites on Coventry Lane.

This comes just one week after property was stolen from multiple cars at two hotels near Lima and Washington Center Roads.

Officer Mike Joyner with the Fort Wayne Police Department says these incidents are likely connected because there is an established routine.

"They're going to hotels in the area where obviously you're going to find an opportunity to have several cars parked in a lot at one location, then breaking into these cars and looking for valuables. The likelihood is great that they're related."

Joyner says even the ring stain on a car's windshield from a GPS unit is enough to convince a thief that a vehicle is vulnerable.

In Huntington County, the Sheriff's Department is reporting a similar string of thefts. They say approximately 11 vehicles have been broken into since the beginning of July.
