FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – The Cellular Connection, the largest Verizon Wireless retailer in the country, donated up to 150 backpacks to school-aged children in the Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) district Saturday morning.

The bags were filled with pencils, paper, glue and other school necessities. The giveaway was held at participating stores in the city from 12 – 2 p.m.

It’s part of the company's School Rocks Backpack Initiative, which donated 60, 000 backpacks at 400 of its stores.

“We started a couple months ago just asking everyone to round-up to the nearest dollar to kind of help provide for the book bags. So the company wanted the community to help themselves, which by donating we were able to help provide the book bags for everyone,” said Jacob Elkins, store manager.

In Fort Wayne, 200 bookbags were given away in just under two hours.
