Berne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A community said goodbye as the body of Army Specialist Nick Taylor was finally laid to rest.

Several hundred people filled South Adams High School in Berne Tuesday for the 20-year-old soldier's funeral.

Friends and family honored Taylor's memory and sacrifice.

Nicholas Taylor was killed in Afghanistan two weeks ago when the armored vehicle he was driving was hit by a rocket propelled grenade. Tuesday morning, people came with heavy hearts but praised the sacrifice Taylor made in the name of freedom.

Adjutant General of the Indiana National guard Martin Umbarger was there.

Several elected officials were also in attendence including Governor Mitch Daniels, Senator Dan Coats, and Representative Mike Pence.

The day was about remembering who Taylor was and how he impacted the lives of those around him.

After the funeral members of the Berne community lined the streets as the funeral procession slowly made its way to Taylor's final resting place where he was buried with full military honors.
