COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (21Alive) - Columbia City may be small, but their task of keeping up with this snow is just as big.

"It has been a very difficult winter. Not only have we had large amounts of snow, we've had sleet, we've had rain, which then turned into ice," said Mayor, Ryan Daniel.

Columbia City has plenty of salt to get them through the next round of winter weather. Instead, the mayor says it's money that he's worried about.

In one month, the city has spent over a third of their overtime budget for the entire year.

"We try to be judicious about when we send our guys out. We want to make sure our roads are safe, so we kind of play that balance between safety and wisely using our tax dollars," said Daniel.

So could this winter weather make you pay more in taxes next year?

Daniel says the short answer is no, but with the high price of salt and cost of paying overtime drivers, other cities may need to see how the next couple of months play out.
