ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The caucus to nominate the republican candidate for the special election to replace Mark Souder will now likely be held on June 12th instead of the 19th, which is the 30-day deadline after Souder’s resignation.

Tuesday morning, journalist Ryan Elijah officially threw his hat into the ring.

A gathering of supporters helped launch his effort to win the vote of precinct committeemen and women.

The television anchor is well known in Fort Wayne, but admits he needs better name ID among precinct people in the western part of the third district.

Elijah says, “Invited every single voter from the Elkhart County area to come to the event today in Goshen, a number said they would. It's an opportunity for me to say this is what I've done in the past and now I need to meet you and show you what my values are and where I stand."

Elijah says he studied political science in college, but has never held elected office.
