West Nile Virus Death in Adams County

DECATUR, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- There's been a rare death in Adams County attributed to the West Nile virus. In fact, it's Indiana's only death in 2010 from the virus, although there have been a total of eleven cases reported statewide so far this year.

A statement issued by the Indiana Department of Health offers little in the way of details, except to say a death has occurred somewhere in Adams County that was caused by a fever related to the West Nile virus.

The virus is carried by mosquitoes.

West Nile fever symptoms are aches, headache and fever, and even a rash or swollen lymph glands.

Sometimes the symptoms are worse, and can lead to death, as was the case for one Adams County resident.
