FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) -- Teachers have one of the most important jobs out there, but often go without the recognition they truly deserve. That's why NBC is so proud to announce the Excellence in Education Award, highlighting exceptional teachers right here in our own community.

Each month, the winning teacher will get $500 to buy books from the Bookmark. They'll also get a fantastic watch, courtesy of Bradley Gough Diamonds, valued at $500.

This month's Excellence in Education winner is Amy Brown from Arlington Elementary in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Brown teaches third grade at Arlington, the same school she's been at since she first started teaching 29-years ago.

She was nominated by Susan Brown and her son, Gabriel, who Mrs. Brown tutored after school due to a lengthy illness.

The Bookmark also provided a cookie and juice social for Mrs. Brown's class.

You can nominate a special teacher in your life by going to NBC33.com and clicking on the “contest" page.
