FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) -- Former IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell has filed a federal discrimination suit against Purdue University, alleging he was fired because he is male.

The lawsuit accuses former Purdue Chancellor France Cordova, a female, of saying that before her term as president was over she wanted to hire more women in administrative roles and "specifically pointed to a picture of Wartell on a board and said 'I am going to replace this one with a woman,'" during a meeting in late 2010 or early 2011.

In 2011, Purdue's retirement age requirement forced Wartell out of IPFW. Requests that he be allowed to stay by IPFW were denied. He was replaced by Vicky Carwein, 64, who was one year short of the required age of retirement that had forced Wartell out.
