State House Committee Considering School Security Proposal (NBC33)

INDIANA (www.nbc33.com) -- The House Education Committee is considering a proposal for the state to begin offering grants to help leaders of public schools hire police officers and buy safety equipment.

The plan is to set up a two-year matching grant program allowing schools up to $50,000 a year and to establish a state commission to make recommendations for securing school buildings.

While the bill doesn't require schools to participate, supporters are hopeful that it will encourage school officials to hire specially trained police officers.
